Q1. What is so special about The Argenti System?

It delivers.  We have developed and proven our process over a forty year period.  It is based on the experiences of thousands of organisations distilled into a five stage process that works time after time.

Key Features:

  • step by step guide for the CEO on each stage of the process, including specimen meeting schedules and agendas
  • step by step guide for the facilitator (internal or external) on each stage of the process, including selection of venues for the meetings, number and frequency of briefing sessions, data assembly and analysis, and coordination of communications.
  • a comprehensive case study showing typical inputs and outputs at each of the five stages of the process.
  • a comprehensive glossary of hints and suggestions reflecting decades of experience in successful strategic planning around the world.
  • free email support from John Argenti and his team of associates.

Q2. How long will the process take?

The primary elements of the strategic planning process can typically be completed in 8-10 weeks.  The actual timeframe will vary with the size, complexity and circumstances of each organisation.

A small organisation, with up to 100 employees and a turnover of about $20m, might need to meet 4 to 6 times for half a day each, spread over a period of a few weeks.  A medium-sized organization may need to meet 6 to 8 times.  A Group with 1000 employees could take several months to complete the 10 or more meetings.  Do not rush this exercise!  The very destiny of your organization depends upon it.

Q3. What are the five stages?

The process starts with Stage 1 - The Start, where the Argenti System suggests to the CEO whom he or she should select for the planning team.  The CEO then leads this team through Stage 2 - Corporate Aims, where they define exactly what their organization is supposed to be doing for whom - and what level of performance would be satisfactory.  The team is then joined by other executives to identify the 'SWOTs' in Stage 3, followed by Stage 4 where the strategies are determined.  Stage 5 completes the process with Action Plans and the essential Monitoring System.

Q4. What do we get for our money?

The Argenti System is a proven approach to practical strategic planning.  It is provided as an HTML document with hypertext functionality.  Not only is the process sufficiently detailed - our long, worldwide experience has taught us many lessons - but it is explained in plain English without the usual management jargon and advanced mathematics.  And of course you have ongoing email access to John Argenti to handle any questions that may arise.  In addition to the Argenti System itself you can employ one of our experienced Argenti Planning Facilitators to take you through the process.

Q5. Every organization is different.  How can your process meet the needs of all of them?

Because all organizations are in a primary sense the same!  All organizations consist of groups of people working to achieve a single aim - to deliver a specific benefit to specific 'Intended Beneficiaries'.  Everyone needs to know who these people are, what they want from the organization and the amount of that benefit that they consider satisfactory.  Once those things are known the management then need to make use of their strengths and the opportunities before them to devise a set of strategies that will deliver the benefit required.  To take account of the detailed differences in various types of organization The Argenti System comes in 4 versions, for small, medium and large companies and for NPOs.

Q6. Is strategic planning really necessary or relevant in a fast-changing world?

The whole point of strategic planning (as opposed to the short-term varieties of planning like Business Planning or Budgeting) is to make sure that the overall design of your organization is suitable and relevant for the world as it changes over the next few years.  To do this you have to look well ahead to give your organization time to make the big changes to its basic structures and processes.  But there is a slight problem here - you cannot forecast the future! No, but that is where strategic planning differs from those other types;  in The Argenti System you will be shown how to make forecasts and plans which include your uncertainties about the future.
